Yesterday was Landon's first appointment with our pediatrician and I am thrilled to report that the appointment went very well and that Landon is surely thriving now that he is home with mama and daddy. (let's not forget big brother too!) Dr. H was very pleased with all that he saw and reviewed with us during his physical exam and did not have any concerns at all with Landon's health or development. There were no shots at this first appointment, but Landon will have to have several different shots at his next big appointment at two months and also will receive the Rotovirus oral vaccination as well. We discussed Landon's feeding schedule and how breastfeeding has been going for me, which luckily, it has been going very well thus far. Not without any problems or emotional breakdowns, but definitely much better than anticipated and considering his growth since leaving the hospital and from his birth weight, Dr. H. had absolutely no concerns that Landon was getting what he needs as far as my milk supply and his nutritional / feeding needs are concerned and felt that I am being "successful" with breastfeeding thus far. We also discussed how long I planned on nursing and decided that we would stick to short-term goals first and then go from there based on Landon's growth and development. So, for now, my next goal will be to still be exclusively nursing when we go for his two month appointment and to then reevaluate and see how we should proceed with Landon's feeding schedule moving forward. All in all, it was a great appointment and I felt really confident and was generally pleased with everything the pediatrician had to say during the entire exam.
Hudson tagged along to the appointment with David and I and was very well behaved the entire time as well which is a rare occurrence, especially lately since he tends to be acting out since Landon was born. After the appointment, we headed on over to the nearby hospital to have the newborn screening tests done and were in and out of there fairly quickly which was perfect since we had then been out with both boys for a couple of hours already and Landon was starting to fuss and was WAY ready for his next feeding. I am SO glad that this first appointment went SO well and cannot wait to see how much Landon grows in the next two months! It actually makes me sad to think that he won't stay this little for very long and before I know it I'll be saying...remember when....
His measurements / stats were as follows:
Weight - 8 lbs 9 oz (50th percentile and up 8 oz from his birth weight)
Height - 20 1/2" (50th percentile)
Head circumference - 14 1/2" (50th percentile)
